According to a post from AdAge retailers are spending a lot more time, money and attention on social media this holiday season. Here’s some data hitpoints:
- More than 50% of retailers are including social media in their holiday campaigns (up from 4% in 2007)
- 76% of retailers including social media in their campaigns are focusing on Facebook
- 50% on Twitter
- 14% on MySpace
- 14% on YouTube
- 10% say they are utilizing all of the above sites.
Here’s the big question everyone is asking: Will spending more time, money & attention on social media actually increase revenue? Will “online engagement” actually contribute to the bottom line?
Hopefully AdAge will be able to enlighten us with some stats about who won and who lost with the holiday season social media spending. But one thing is for sure, if you are engaging your audience in the social web, you must be able to track the value of that engagement. You must have a way to monitor the who, what, where, when, why of the social web concerning your brand/product/topic. Otherwise there will be no way to measure growth and progress.
So, how will you compare next year’s holiday campaign to this years? How will you blow the CEO’s mind when you say:”We had 75% more engagement online this year compared to last year?” How will you be able to measure and see last years tweets, posts, updates, and blogs about your campaign in 2010? Well, that’s easy if you’re a PositivePress customer.
