Information-Managment.com has an interesting article on the Five E-Discovery Landmines for IT to Avoid by Kamal Shah. Here’s a couple interesting facts from the article.
ESI is increasing around 30% every year. That’s a reality IT professionals in your organization have to come to terms with.
Don’t underestimate the cost of storage. Storage is cheap, which may encourage your organization to save everything under the sun. But professional and lawyer fees to review that stored data can cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars.
This is an excellent point: Make sure the technology you use has robust organization, collaboration, and search tools so your team can find the important data fast and effectively.
Iterasi’s browser console allows you to quickly search through all your archives or filter by tag, folder, date, etc… Then you can create reports to share important web ESI with opposing counsel, your legal team, etc. These are absolutely essential tools in your E-Discovery process.
Don’t assume that email archiving is the silver bullet:
“Rather, email archives are just one piece in the rapidly expanding spectrum of data sources such as end-user desktops and laptops, centralized file servers, collaboration tools (SharePoint, wikis, blogs), structured databases (ERP, CRM systems) and social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn).”
