Adding A Topic

What is a topic? Topics are what PositivePress tracks the internet for. A topic might be a:

  • product (‘Tide’, ‘Ferrari’, ‘Snuggli’),
  • person (‘Winston Churchill’, ‘Miles Davis’, ‘Obama’), a Company (‘Nordstrom’, ‘Intel’, ‘Proctor & Gamble’),
  • just about anything you would use a search engine to find.

Once you set up a topic, PositivePress will immediately start scouring the internet for content about your topic.

To setup a topic: First go to the Topics page. Then…

1. Enter a search term: This is the term PositivePress will search the internet for. (to use an exact phrase you can put quotation marks around the words, eg. ‘Barack Obama’). Here are some tips:
  • Multiple Keywords: will find articles that contain any of those keywords (example: [ Ferrari Testarossa ] will find articles that contain the words ‘Ferrari’ and ‘Testarosa’).
  • Exact Phrases: you can put the phrase in quotations (example: [ ‘Ferrari Testarossa’ ] will only find articles where that exact phrase is used).
  • Negative Keywords: you can put a minus sign (-) in front of keywords you want to exclude (example: [ Ferrari Testarossa -lamborghini ] will only find articles that contain the words Ferrari and/or Testarossa and DO NOT contain the word lamborghini).

2. Choose sources to include: You can select the sources you’d like PositivePress to search for your topic.

  • Blogs: Include blogs if you'd like PositivePress to capture results about your topic from the several million blogs all around the internet.
  • News: Include news if you'd like PositivePress to capture results about your topic from news sources like the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, and others.
  • Twitter: Include Twitter if you'd like PositivePress to capture results about your topic from Twitter.

3. Choose a folder: All of the results for this topic will be put in this folder so they are easy to find.

4. Choose tags: We recommend that you give each topic an individual tag. That way you can look at results for just this topic in the Archive.

Finally, Click ‘OK’ to setup your topic.
