Science has only recently begun the difficult task of fitting mind and consciousness into the theories that work so well to describe the material world. Yet, our personal experiences and a growing number of good experiments show that consciousness and intention can have subtle but important effects in the real world. We know that groups of people sometimes experience a special resonance of feelings and ideas, and some recent scientific evidence indicates that effects of coherent group consciousness can be detected with appropriate instruments. The Global Consciousness Project (GCP) is an international collaboration of researchers who are studying such extraordinary qualities of consciousness. Our goal is to extend this research to global dimensions via the Internet. <br> <br> The GCP uses new technology and methods designed to record and visualize effects of events that may evoke a world-wide consciousness. Examples from the recent past that appear to have done so include the funeral ceremonies of Princess Diana; the opening of the Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan; a few minutes around midnight on New Years Eve; and the first hour of NATO bombing on the 24th of March, 1999 in Yugoslavia. It will come as no surprise that we predict the turn of the Millennium will have a measurable effect in the subtle realms of interconnected human consciousness. </p> </body> GCP menubar   Homepage Global Correlations in Random Data The Global Consciousness Project, also called the EGG Project, is an international, multidisciplinary collaboration of scientists, engineers, artists and others. This website introduces methods, technology, and empirical results under the "Scientific Work" menu below, and gives background and interpretation under "Aesthetic View". We have been collecting data from a global network of random event generators since August, 1998. The network has grown to about 65 host sites around the world running custom software that reads the output of physical random number generators and records a 200-bit trial sum once every second, continuously over months and years. The data are transmitted over the internet to a server in Princeton, NJ, USA, where they are archived for later analysis. Statistical results are complemented by visualizations. Individual data create a random tapestry . The dot color shows their global coherence. Global brain paintings display their complexity. Our purpose is to examine subtle correlations that reflect the presence and activity of consciousness in the world. We have learned that when millions of us share intentions and emotions the GCP/EGG network shows correlations . We can interpret this as evidence for a growing global consciousness. It suggests we are capable of conscious evolution. We make the world we live in, and if we work to do no harm , we can create a planetary smile .
