To join, pick up a form at the library or mail your membership dues to the library. Membership dues are tax-deductible: Basic: $10.00 Sustaining: $25.00 Patron: $50.00 Benefactor: $100.00 Donated books are sold throughout the year in the library, and a used book sale is held each spring. Donated books are accepted throughout the year. (No textbooks or Reader's Digest condensed books, please.) The Friends of the Library contributed $17,125 in financial support to the library during 2007. For children, they donated $4,973 for programs and summer reading support, $488 for family concerts, and $301 for collections.They also contributed $5,396 to the adult section, including audio books ($2,567), programs ($641), BookPage subscription ($360), equipment and furnishings ($990), support for library staff ($392), lobby decorations ($321), and HRDBA membership ($125). They contributed $5,967 to the Hood River County Reads Project. Additionally, the Friends donated 2,925 hours in volunteer time. They are officially responsible for the review of library operations. The Library Board looks at both the long-term and short-range library service issues, develops strategies, implements policies, and advocates for the Library both to the County Commission and the community. Library Board members: Kat Masek (Chair), Carroll Davis, Timothy Farrell, Barbara Keir, John Marker, Keith Harding, and Bob Schuppe. Library Foundation: back to top The mission of the Hood River County Library Foundation is to assist in the promotion and support of a quality library system and to help sustain its services and structure. This year's projects and programs of the Library Foundation to assist the library include: Books and materials annual expense: $20,000.00 ADA improvements to library: $5000.00 Sunday hours Nov.-May: $4082.00 Georgiana Smith Park Maintenance: $9180.00 Hood River Reads: $3000.00 Total 2007-2008: $41,262.00 The Library Foundation holds an annual golf tournament fund raiser and relies heavily on the generous donations of library supporters. We encourage people to think of the Library Foundation when doing family financial and estate planning. We welcome donations of any size at any time. Temporary patrons (those staying less than six months who do not own property in Hood River County or in areas that have reciprocal borrowing privileges) need to pay a $10 deposit, which will be refunded upon request when all materials are returned. Hood River County residents have reciprocal borrowing privileges with Fort Vancouver Regional Library , Multnomah County Library , Washington County Cooperative Library Services , and Library Information Network of Clackamas County . Hood River County residents may obtain a Columbia Gorge Community College Library card at no charge. Policies: back to top Overdue Policy Overdue Fine Policy for Hood River County Library Materials: Five cents per item per day is assessed up to $1 maximum for each adult item. Five cents per item per day is assessed up to 50 cents maximum for each children's item. If materials are returned within three days of their due date, no fines will be charged! An item sent from another Gorge Link library conforms to that particular library's loan periods and fine charges. Hood River County Library's Internet Policy The Internet contains vast resources of information and entertainment. Not everything is accurate or verifiable, and there are sites and materials that are objectionable to some people and inappropriate for children. While Hood River County Library does not wish to censor or restrict Internet access or content, we expect users to exercise good judgment while viewing materials at the library. The Internet computers are located in a public place where children or families may be present. Disregard of these guidelines by individuals can result in their loss of Internet privileges at the library. Hood River County Library is not responsible for the content of materials viewed or selected by children; it is the responsibility of parents to monitor and guide their children in the proper use of the Internet. L-Net is also available for reference 24/7. Interlibrary Loans If a particular item is not available through the Gorge LINK catalog, Hood River County residents may request to borrow the item from another library. (Interlibrary loan service is unavailable to temporary or out-of-County residents.)
